New National Support Network Launches for People Living with Obesity

The United Kingdom Coalition for People Living with Obesity (UKCPO) to Launch on 28 May 2025

A new national organisation, the United Kingdom Coalition for People Living with Obesity (UKCPO), is set to launch on Wednesday 28 May 2025 with a virtual event designed to bring together people across the UK who live with obesity, offering support, understanding, and community.

Founded by people living with obesity, for people living with obesity, UKCPO is a unique and powerful response to a growing need for peer-led advocacy and support. Every member of UKCPO’s board, management, and volunteer team lives with obesity, bringing lived experience to the heart of the organisation’s mission and values.

“We understand the challenges — because we’ve lived them.”

UKCPO was created to provide a united voice, to challenge stigma, and to support those navigating life with obesity. The group is grounded in empathy and empowerment, with a focus on creating safe, inclusive spaces where people can access reliable information, connect with others, and feel heard.

The official launch event will be held on Zoom at 7:30 PM on Wednesday 28 May. The session is open to all and will offer a first look at the organisation’s work, future plans, and how individuals can get involved.

The launch follows the successful rollout of UKCPO’s Facebook and Zoom support groups in April. These groups offer regular peer-to-peer sessions, tailored for both general support and those on a bariatric surgery pathway.

With in-person meetings also on the horizon, UKCPO aims to expand support across the UK in the coming months.

UKCPO’s approach is rooted in collaboration and lived experience, and it welcomes anyone living with obesity who is seeking connection, understanding, or practical support.

As the organisation grows, it will continue to develop resources, events, and outreach programmes that reflect the needs and voices of its members.
